Call for Expressions of Interest from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders: RRAP Board and Steering Committee

Reef Restoration and Adaptation Program

Salary etc:

$25,000 per year

The Reef Restoration and Adaptation Program (RRAP) brings together Australia’s leading experts to develop viable options for intervening at scale on the Great Barrier Reef, and other Australian reefs, to help them recover from, and adapt to, the effects of climate change. RRAP is a long-term initiative, with this R&D phase designed to run until June 2024. The initial cash funding for RRAP is being provided through the $100M allocated for reef restoration and adaptation science as part of the partnership between the Australian Government’s Reef Trust and the Great Barrier Reef Foundation (the Reef Trust Partnership).

The RRAP partners have committed to an Indigenous engagement framework where all Research and Development (R&D) occurring on sea country requires free, prior and informed consent, and to establishing meaningful partnerships with Traditional Owners. To support these activities, a small working group of Traditional Owners has been established jointly with the Great Barrier Reef Foundation’s Traditional Owner-led reef restoration initiative funded under the Reef Trust Partnership.

To further guide and support the RRAP, we are seeking expressions of interest from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders to take up an independent member role on the RRAP Board. The role will be crucial in guiding our engagement with Traditional Owners and advising what further elements need to be built in the program to support this engagement.

The Board will meet a minimum of four times per year with higher frequency of shorter meetings in the first six months likely. Member remuneration will be $25,000 per year plus reasonable expenses to attend meetings on an initial four-year term.
