About the team

The Strategic Restoration Planning team sits within the City’s new Environment, Heritage and Resilience department, and works directly with officers from natural areas conservation, restoration teams, catchment management teams, environmental planning teams, priority species teams and bushfire and pest management teams. 

About your new role

This is an exciting opportunity to work in the City’s growing Environmental Offset Program, which has delivered over 151 hectares of restoration since 2012, brought $13 million in restoration revenue into the City and have another 230 hectares of restoration planned over the next few years. You will be joining a team of five passionate officers and be responsible for undertaking tasks related to environmental offsets program implementation. 

Responsibilities include:

  • Lead the implementation of environmental offset policies, including negotiating offset requirements, securing suitable offset sites, managing agreements, overseeing financial contributions, auditing and reporting on offset projects, and maintaining offset registers and databases.
  • Support city teams in preparing offset management plans and procuring reports, monitoring, and fieldwork related to offsets.
  • Drive investment in offset projects by engaging with State and Commonwealth regulators and external agencies, promoting the city’s natural areas as viable offset sites for development impacts.
  • Develop and manage corporate governance structures to ensure effective implementation of relevant environmental policies.
  • Conduct spatial analysis, desktop studies, and fieldwork to identify ideal offset receiving sites for the City.
  • Review and stay informed on relevant legislation regarding offsets and the nature repair market.

We're looking for people who have:

  • Bachelor Degree of Environmental Science (Management) or Equivalent Knowledge, qualifications or experience
  • Five years' experience in the environmental field 
  • Previous experience in offset management is desirable
  • Strong communication skills to effectively engage with stakeholders, government agencies, and external partners.
  • A passion for environmental sustainability and expertise in implementing environmental offset policies.
  • The ability to negotiate, manage agreements, and oversee projects from start to finish.
