This is a 36-month fixed-term, part-time (0.6 FTE) position (with the possibility of extension or permanency)

DBCA’s Dirk Hartog Island National Park Return to 1616 Ecological Restoration Project began in 2012 with the aim of restoring the island’s ecology to a condition more closely resembling that experienced by early explorers in 1616.

Groundbreaking work by DBCA scientists and staff to remove pest animals has now made Dirk Hartog Island the World’s largest island to be cleared of feral cats, goats and sheep. In combination with controlling high priority invasive weeds, this has enabled DBCA to restore native vegetation and create the conditions to reintroduce the island’s native animals.

We currently have an opportunity for a Finance and Administration Officer to join the Return to 1616 Project team.

You will undertake financial and administrative program support associated with the Dirk Hartog Island National Park (Return to 1616) Ecological Restoration Project. You will liaise with the Return to 1616 project manager, staff and contributors to monitor outputs and progress towards approved milestones. Assists with project community engagement events. In addition, you will provide administrative support to the Biodiversity and Conservation Science Division in the areas of finance, accounts, personnel, and administrative activities, and through liaison with the Business Manager and Finance and Administration Coordinator ensures program finance and account management is integrated within the Division.

Selection Criteria

  1. Considerable experience in office and project administration.
  2. Demonstrated financial management skills including the use of spreadsheet applications.
  3. Demonstrated time management and organisational skills
  4. Demonstrated interpersonal skills, including the ability to liaise effectively with professional and administrative staff and to work independently or collaboratively as part of a team.
