The Manager Conservation leads and coordinates the planned development, review and reporting of the Rottnest Islands marine and terrestrial Conservation Management Strategies and the implementation of the associated research, monitoring and operational programs. The role provides specialist services covering conservation, protection and restoration of the reserves natural environment to meet statutory and strategic goals defined in management plans, strategies and annual business plans.

The successful applicant will be required to possess or obtain a current and satisfactory National Police Check prior to commencement.

Selection Criteria

  1. Considerable Level knowledge of, and experience in the provision of both marine and terrestrial nature conservation and natural land management services, with experience in developing and implementing related operational plans, conservation programs, management plans and strategies, and having familiarity with the principles of planning for biodiversity outcomes and ecologically sustainable development.
  2. Considerable experience in the development and delivery of marine and terrestrial wildlife monitoring and management programs.
  3. Considerable experience in the effective management and leadership of teams, and in negotiating, communicating and liaising with the community, media, and special interest groups including Aboriginal people.
  4. Substantial experience and competence in financial management and other management systems; including project management, risk management, and information technology.

The following essential criteria will be assessed at some stage during the selection process. Desirable criteria will be assessed as required:

  1. Well developed interpersonal, written and oral communication skills including the ability to analyse, resolve and respond to complex and detailed issues and effectively communicate at a range of levels.
  2. Applies and promotes the principles of equity, diversity and work health and safety in the workplace.
  3. Current “C” Class Driver’s Licence.
  4. A tertiary qualification in Environment management, Sustainability or equivalent. (Desirable)
  5. Knowledge and experience in GIS and data management software. (Desirable)
  6. Strong analytical skills including ability to interpret relevant data and apply regulations and legislation and policy to achieve conservation and land management. (Desirable)
