About the role

Trees For Life is seeking a Seed Bank Manager to support our Tree Scheme, Nursery and Direct Seeding program’s by providing native seed collection services and ensuring sufficient viable seed is in stock. Working in a talented and committed team, the role offers field work and strong skill development opportunities.

Volunteer support is critical to the success of the seed bank and the SBM also manages a small volunteer workforce.

Trees For Life is a not-for-profit environmental organisation that works alongside the South Australian community to restore habitat through restoration and revegetation. Our Tree Scheme provides an opportunity for landholders to order low-cost seedlings across the State and opt to be matched with a volunteer grower. The Westwood Nursery grows seedlings for project orders and a highly successful annual plant sale. Our direct seeding program offers broad scale revegetation services across SA on a fee for service basis.

About you

  • You have a passion for native plants and learning, with prior experience collecting and processing seed.
  • You bring excellent native plant identification skills as well as solid knowledge of contemporary native seed sourcing policy and practice.
  • Your self-reliant approach will enable you to plan and implement a seed collection strategy for our programs.
  • Rounding out your suitability for the role are good communication and organisational skills, robust work safety practices and the ability to lead a small team of volunteers.
  • You’ll need a valid class C driver’s license and be familiar with driving a cab chassis 4WD utility vehicle. Occasional remote and out of hours work will be required. Due to the range of physical duties required for this position, such as bending and stretching, employment will be conditional on passing a medical fitness test.
