The Environment Officer assists in developing and implementing conservation programs and projects and provides advice and support to the Conservation Manager. The role undertakes activities including conservation of and the protection and restoration of the reserves natural marine and terrestrial environment and its species to meet statutory and strategic goals defined in management plans, strategies and annual business plans.

The Environment Officer plays a key role in the development, review and reporting of the Rottnest Islands Conservation Management Strategies and the implementation of the associated research, monitoring and operational programs.

Selection Criteria 

  1. Strong written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills including good influencing skills and ability to liaise effectively with diverse stakeholders. 
  2. Considerable understanding of, and experience in, the preparation and delivery of operational conservation management programs with a focus on biodiversity conservation, biodiversity monitoring and natural resource management outcomes. 
  3. Proven ability to manage small projects including scoping, budget, and reporting, to deliver planned outputs within budget and timeframe. 
  4. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision as well as collaboratively in multi-disciplinary teams including supervising and supporting team members to achieve results.
