New England Landcare Network Inc (NELN) is a regional Landcare Network representing four member Landcare Networks, including Southern New England Landcare Ltd, GLENRAC Inc, GWYMAC Inc and Granite Borders Landcare Committee Inc.

Role objectives

  • The Regional Administration Support Officer (RASO) is responsible for the administration and coordination of New England Landcare Network Inc (NELN) – which supports and advocates for its four member Landcare Networks in the region.
  • The RASO will work with the NELN Committee of Management, the NELN Bookkeeper, the NELN Regional Landcare Coordinator (employed by NT LLS), and Local Landcare Coordinators (employed by NELN’s member networks), to support and empower them to achieve their goals and to deliver on the target outcomes of the 2023-2027 Landcare Enabling Program.
  • The RASO will focus on administration, processes and streamlining of systems to create a smooth and efficient regional network office, to help deliver the outcomes of the 2023-2027 Landcare Enabling Program.
  • The RASO will be supported by and work directly with the NELN Regional Landcare Coordinator and NELN Committee of Management (CoM).
  • The RASO will directly interact with Landcare, local partners, and Government bodies across the region. The RASO will be expected to collaborate with a range of Landcare support mechanisms, including Local Land Services and other agencies.
  • Additional hours for project management may be available to the RASO where these hours are funded by project(s) secured by NELN Inc.

Key deliverables

  1. Day to day administration of New England Landcare Network Inc
  2. NELN Committee of Management secretarial duties including assistance to prepare agendas, business papers, minutes and presentations
  3. Prepare regular communications (newsletters and social media) with NELN’s member networks and volunteers
  4. Assist the RLC and LLCs to prepare NELN project and grant applications that support the NELN Regional Strategic Plan
  5. Project management, reporting and evaluation, including for but not limited to, the NSW Landcare Enabling Program
  6. Financial management in collaboration with NELN CoM Treasurer and Bookkeeper
  7. Assist the NELN CoM and NELN RLC with stakeholder management using strong interpersonal skills and approachability
  8. Electronic data and records management using standard Microsoft applications
  9. Report in the Coordinator Activity Tracker (CAT)
  10. Liaise with the Program’s Indigenous Engagement Officers to ensure Indigenous programs/projects are incorporated into regional delivery
  11. Participate in Regional and State Community of Practice
  12. Recruitment of staff may be necessary.

Links to existing programs

The successful applicant will be working in a broader Landcare network, with support available. The RASO will work closely with other Landcare Network staff, Local Landcare Coordinators, the Regional Landcare Coordinator, NELN CoM volunteers, and the Regional Agriculture Landcare Facilitator (RALF) across the Northern Tablelands of NSW and surrounding regions.

Selection criterion

Please address each of the following criteria:

  1. Sound understanding of natural resource management issues in the region and empathy with the local community in the New England region.
  2. Demonstrated well developed written and oral communication skills, including competency in the use of Word, Excel, email, Publisher, and the internet.
  3. Proven expertise in office management and administration including human resources and recruitment skills.
  4. Demonstrated skills in project planning, management, record keeping, report writing, and grant writing.
  5. Proven ability to work with Government agencies, community groups and landholders, including schools and indigenous groups.
  6. Ability and willingness to work outside office hours from time to time with landholders and attend community group meetings.
  7. Experience in Natural Resource Management, Environmental Science, Sustainable Agriculture or similar.
  8. Ability to travel from time to time.
  9. Current Driver’s License.

  • Attendance at meetings outside of normal work hours may be required.
  • Travel around the region and infrequent travel and overnight stays interstate will be required.
  • You may be required to use your own vehicle for work purposes and provide us with copies of current Comprehensive or at least Third-Party Property insurance policies for your vehicle. Vehicle use will be reimbursed on a per kilometre basis at the rate set down by the Australian Taxation Office (currently $0.85 per kilometre).
