This is an exciting time to be part of the Resource Recovery team at Ipswich City Council.  The Resource Recovery Operations Manager plays a critical role in the planning and delivery of essential community waste management services to meet community needs.  As part of the senior management team, you will work closely with other business units across Council and take a lead in delivering on the Resource Recovery Strategy and Annual Performance Plan, as priority deliverables of Council.

About the role

As Resource Recovery Operations Manager you will be responsible for the daily operations across the entire business and will contribute to the Department’s achievement of objectives for waste services, waste management and resource recovery by leading the operations staff in the efficient collection, recovery and disposal of domestic, commercial and other waste.

  • Some of your key responsibilities will include:
  • Effectively lead, empower and coach your team developing an effective, efficient and high-performing workforce
  • Championing safe work practices in accordance with policies, procedures and legislative requirements for the waste and heavy vehicle industry
  • Coordinate  the City’s waste and resource recovery operations, including the management of domestic, recycling, green, and commercial waste collection runs, and public refuse and resource recovery centres
  • Provide specialist advice on resource recovery strategies, plans and policies

About you

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • Demonstrated high level leadership skills and experience, including team management and development capability, leading a complex and dynamic workforce
  • High level of interpersonal, communication and liaison skills to represent Council in a variety of forums and communication with a range of internal and external stakeholders
  • Proven experience in leading large operations-based teams in a dynamic and rapidly evolving environment
  • Extensive experience and knowledge of legislation and policies relevant to waste and heavy vehicle industries, workplace health and safety, resource recovery, and environmental protection
  • Skills to manage multiple projects within specified time frames, budget and other constraints
  • Substantial knowledge of the waste and resource recovery sector at a local, state and national level
  • Proven ability to be adaptive and responsive to changes in strategic direction and organisational priorities
  • Degree or qualifications in Waste Management, Business Management, and/or substantial experience in the waste management and resource recovery sector
