Pemberton is a town in the southwest corner of Western Australia. It’s known for the tall karri trees of Gloucester National Park, including the Gloucester Tree. Also in the park are the Cascades waterfall and Lefroy Brook’s rocky rapids. Just outside town are more giant karris at Warren National Park and vast dunes at Yeagarup Beach. 

Under the limited direction of the District PVS Coordinator, the Senior Ranger: 

  • Is responsible for the overall leadership of works programs and day to day operations across all the Donnelly District national parks, liaising with stakeholders and coordinating volunteer and external crews.
  • Contributes to the management of other lands and waters, managed by the department within the Donnelly District as required.
  • Works with Traditional Owners to support joint management arrangements. 

The successful applicant will be required to possess or obtain a current Working With Children Check and a current and satisfactory National Police Check prior to commencement.

Selection Criteria 

  1. Considerable experience in leading, supervising and managing teams across a number of separate locations, empowering individuals to work with confidence both in teams and independently to deliver agreed outcomes and priorities, with particular emphasis on the development, management and supervision of park-specific projects.
  2. Evidence of excellent oral communication and interpersonal skills and considerable experience in building and maintaining networks; liaising with the public, commercial tourism operators, community groups, special interest groups (including indigenous groups) and other stakeholders; and in patrol and enforcement procedures.
  3. Considerable experience and knowledge of implementing operational plans and works programs including budget management, associated with visitor management and natural resource management, having regard to the threatening processes affecting native flora and fauna, rehabilitation techniques and the monitoring and control of pests and weeds.
  4. Ability and willingness to work with Traditional Owners to deliver native title aspirations and goals through joint management, cooperation or collaborative arrangements.
