The Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions is committed to promoting biodiversity and conservation to enrich people’s lives, through sustainable management of Western Australia’s species, ecosystems, lands and the attractions in the department’s care.

Under general direction of the Invasive Animals Program Leader, this position:

  • Strategically leads the team responsible for the on-ground delivery of the Cane Toad Strategy for WA.
  • Liaises with stakeholders across Western Australia including local communities, research institutions, Aboriginal organisations, Non-Government Organisations (NGO), Government Departments, and the resources sector in relation to cane toads.
  • Manages and assists research and monitoring including data collection and analysis, and associated reporting for the Cane Toad Program at high level.

The successful applicant will be required to possess or obtain a current Working With Children Check and a current and satisfactory National Police Check prior to commencement.

Selection Criteria 

  1. Significant experience in project planning for on ground management of invasive animals for biodiversity conservation.
  2. Demonstrated experience in leadership including managing staff, leading teams, and conflict resolution.
  3. Demonstrated high level interpersonal, liaison, negotiation and oral communication skills with internal staff and external stakeholders including aboriginal rangers and traditional owners.
  4. Demonstrated high level of initiative and autonomy in developing and implementing works programs to deliver against strategic goals and outcomes.
