About the role

We are seeking a Seed Bank Manager to support effective delivery of our Tree Scheme, Nursery and Direct Seeding programs. The SBM provides native seed collection services to Trees For Life, ensuring sufficient viable seed is in stock.   The role offers field work and strong development opportunities.

Volunteer support is critical to the success of the seed bank and the SBM also manages a small volunteer workforce.

A detailed Position Description is linked below.

About us

Trees For Life is a not-for-profit environmental organisation that works alongside the South Australian community to restore habitat through restoration and revegetation.  Our Tree Scheme provides an opportunity for landholders to order low-cost seedlings across the State and opt to be matched with a volunteer grower. The nursery grows seedlings for project orders and a highly successful annual plant sale. Our direct seeding program offers broad scale revegetation services across the State on a fee for service basis.

About you

Your excellent native plant identification skills and solid knowledge of contemporary policy, codes and legislation determining best practice native seed sourcing make you a good fit for this position.

Your tasks will include planning and implementing a seed collection strategy based on best practice principles, so prior experience collecting and processing seed is essential.

Rounding out your suitability for the role are good communication and organisational skills, robust work safety practices and the ability to lead a small team of volunteers.

You’ll need a valid class C driver’s license and be familiar with driving a cab chassis 4WD utility vehicle.  Occasional remote and out of hours work will be required. Due to the range of physical duties required for this position, such as bending and stretching, employment will be conditional on passing a medical fitness test.
