Are you driven by a desire to protect natural and cultural values while working closely with communities? We are looking for an enthusiastic individual to coordinate an exciting new community engagement and environmental protection project across Bundjalung Country. As the Project Coordinator, you will work with the Senior Leadership Team, Cultural Advisors and a range of community stakeholders to spearhead the project. Your primary responsibilities will include supervising Project Officers, developing strong relationships with community members and organisations, and leading community-based planning efforts. This is a fixed-term, part-time position (4 days per week) for 2 years, with a salary of $90,000-$105,000 per annum (1.0 FTE) (pro rata, 0.8 FTE). As this is an Aboriginal identified role, Aboriginality is a requirement for this position.

We are seeking someone with a deep understanding of cultural values and proven experience in developing beneficial partnerships and engaging with local communities. You will need excellent project management skills, the ability to work both independently and as part of a team, and strong verbal and written communication abilities. A current driving licence and the willingness to undertake community-based activities, sometimes in remote locations, are essential. A qualification in education, health, social sciences, environment, or a related field would be advantageous but not essential.   • Salary/Rate: $90,000-$105,000 per annum (1.0 FTE) (pro rata, 0.8FTE) depending on prior experience and time in role + 12% superannuation.
  • Location: Sites across the Bundjalung nation, with HQ in Lismore area.
  • Report: Community Partnerships Lead / Strategy and Engagement Lead

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise and work with Project Officers in planning and implementing project activities, ensure compliance with grant requirements and reporting, monitor project performance and provide regular updates to the Leadership Team.
  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with communities, colleagues, and project participants, including Aboriginal Elders, community members, relevant community groups, government, and non-government organisations.
  • Establish an Project Advisory Committee and work with Jagun Alliance’s Cultural Advisors and Leadership to coordinator engagement and planning activities across the region, documenting outcomes and following up on commitments and actions (including the development of MOUs or other agreements with local Aboriginal groups and organisations where appropriate).
  • Lead community-based planning (Healthy Country Planning or similar) with communities, organisations, interested landholders and other stakeholders
  • Lead project planning, Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL), and reporting.
  • Develop videos, photos, and other communications products as appropriate to communicate with communities and project funders on project activities, progress and outcomes.
  • Assist in the implementation of policies and procedures to ensure the safe and successful delivery of project activities.
  • Attend relevant forums, training sessions, seminars, and workshops that will inform and support the achievement of the project objectives.
  • Other duties as requested by your supervisor.

Skills and Experience

  • Knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal culture and the ability to work with Aboriginal and culturally diverse people.
  • Proven experience in developing and maintaining beneficial partnerships in support of community-based work and well-developed interpersonal skills, a proactive attitude, and motivation to build relationships.
  • Proven experience in community-based planning, engagement and successfully delivering engagement strategies and projects with local communities and partner organisations.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Demonstrated project management skills including ability to plan and coordinate community engagement and project implementation work, monitoring, record-keeping and reporting on community events and project outcomes.
  • Well-developed verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to listen, understand and synthesise multiple perspectives
  • Ability to contribute to strategic planning and Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning.
  • Current driving licence and the ability to drive 4WD (desirable).
  • Ability to carry out community-based activities where required. This may require a reasonable level of fitness and willingness to stay overnight in remote locations on occasion.
  • A tertiary or vocational training qualification in education, health, social sciences, environment, or a related discipline would be desirable but not essential.
