Strong Country Ranger (2 positions)

• This position is Identified as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander under the provisions of the Equal Opportunity Act 2010 (Victoria).
• This position is based in the Bass Coast and Mornington Peninsula Region.

Position Purpose

The Strong Country team was developed within the Bunurong Land Council to give Bunurong members and the community an opportunity to work On Country to preserve and enhance the natural environment, conserve and protect cultural heritage, and provide guidance and direction to land managers.

We have 2 positions Available:

• 1 x Strong Country Ranger.
• 1 x Pest and Wildlife Ranger.

Position Responsibilities:

• Assist in the management of Bunurong Country, including ecological restoration, threatened species recovery actions, wildlife management, weed control, and feral animal control to protect and conserve the natural and cultural heritage.
• Maintain an understanding of current and developed policies and procedures.
• Ability to work in an agile environment and respond to seasonal variations and changing resources.

Requirements:

• Build and maintain employment-related community networks and work in partnership with the local Aboriginal community, key government and private sector organisations, specialist education providers, employment and training agencies to gain support from subject matter experts and peers, and to share ideas and solutions.
• May be required to operate a variety of equipment and vehicles in accordance with the Organisations safe working procedures and the Work Health and Safety Act.

Specialist/Technical Expertise/Qualifications:

• Relevant tertiary qualification in Environmental Science, Natural Resource Management (or equivalent) and/or relevant field experience.
• Agvet Chemical User Permit.
• Chainsaw License (Desirable; Tree Felling).
• Experience in Community Engagement.

Key Competencies:

• Full Victorian driver's license.
• Demonstrated working experience and knowledge of Working on Country.
• Stakeholder engagement and interpersonal skills to positively influence good outcomes at all levels.
• This position will be required to collect data using GPS and Smartphone Apps for annual reporting.

Compliance Requirements:

• National Police Check.
• Full Victorian driver's license.
• Working with Children Check.
