About the role

National Parks and Wildlife Service is seeking a Senior Project Officer to manage the delivery of Feral Animal Management control programs and activities across NPWS parks and reserves.

As the Senior Project Officer, you will lead a geographically dispersed team while being accountable for supporting the coordinated delivery of high-quality programs. You will ensure policies and guidelines for the safe, humane, and effective use of firearms and other pest control and ecological management programs are in place and complied with.

You will manage politically and environmentally sensitive issues to gain acceptance for programs which may be seen to be controversial by stakeholders with strong and often opposing views and implementing innovative solutions to address complex and sensitive issues.

About you

To be successful in the role, you will have:

  • Extensive experience in leading the delivery of innovative, best practice, humane feral animal management, ecological management or related conservation programs.
  • Detailed understanding of government processes, policy and procedures, including their application to ecological management and conservation.
  • Experience working closely with field based feral animal control teams to ensure safe and effective control with high animal welfare standards.

Essential requirements:

  • Project management skills and experience with an understanding of contemporary best practice in procurement, tendering and contract preparation, in managing project teams, consultants and contractors, and in applying environmental safety and risk management policies and systems.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing, implementing and reviewing strategic plans, policies and programs, and in providing strategic and operational advice and recommendations to senior management.
  • Appropriate tertiary qualifications or demonstrated equivalent, relevant professional experience.
