The Kariyarra Aboriginal Corporation (the KAC, ICN 8355) is a relatively new Prescribed Body Corporate (PBC), which is currently expanding its workforce to accommodate new and exciting roles to support the Kariyarra People in managing their native title rights and interests. The Role

The primary objective of this role is to support the Kariyarra Heritage and Environment Group Manager and the Ranger team in delivering the Kariyarra Aboriginal Corporation's (KAC) strategic vision for Country, Culture and Community.

A person with leadership skills and demonstrated experience working with Aboriginal people is needed to develop and grow the Kariyarra Ranger Team and implement various Ranger activities such as fish monitoring, water monitoring, fire management, fauna monitoring, weed management and other land, sea and inland water Ranger projects.

Selection Criteria

Essential:

1. Demonstrable ability to effectively communicate and cooperate with Traditional Owners to manage and support the delivery of Ranger projects.
2. Significant practical experience in planning and implementing projects and activities related to natural and cultural resource management programs on Aboriginal lands.
3. Demonstrated leadership experience and confidence in working with Aboriginal communities.
4. Experience working with a team as a team leader with minimal supervision and at times, in remote areas.
5. Demonstrated capacity to remain focused, positive, adaptive and organised in a challenging and dynamic work environment.
6. High-level communication skills, ability to work with Elders, and to both lead and support as a member of a team in an indigenous-led organisation.
7. Sound knowledge of risk management procedures and practical experience implementing Health, Safety and Environment legislative requirements.
8. Demonstrated experience in project management, including capacity to manage logistics for remote fieldwork.
9. Experience in financial management of a program budget and ensuring compliance with administrative processes. .
10. An ability to build networks and develop sustainable partnerships, working with the needs of a diverse range of relevant stakeholders.
11. Current valid driver's license; maintaining a licence is a condition of ongoing employment in this role.
12. Working with Children's Check (WCC) and Police Clearance or the ability to obtain them.
13. Demonstrated understanding and knowledge of social and cultural challenges faced by Aboriginal people and a willingness to commit to community empowerment, training, and development.
14. Experience with on country use of technology for monitoring and reporting.
15. Willingness to move/live in Port Hedland, Western Australia.

Desirable:

1. High level technical or trade skills relevant to the ranger program (i.e., fencing, construction, fire and weed management, GIS, cultural mapping, plant and animal identification, small engine maintenance, erosion remediation, water monitoring).

Location and conditions

The role will be based in Port Hedland with a regular Working on Country roster for environment survey training and work.

A generous salary package including housing allowances and benefits will be negotiated for the right person.
