The Opportunity

Lithgow City Council has an exciting opportunity for a community focussed and organised specialist to join our team on a temporary term contract for a four (4) year period as the Landcare Coordinator.

Lithgow is a central location for a regional lifestyle and great outdoor recreational activities. Lithgow lies adjacent to the new Gardens of Stone State Conservation Area and Greater Blue Mountains World Heritage Area, while being less than 30 minutes drive to Blackheath in the Blue Mountains.

As the Landcare Coordinator you will work closely with and support community-based volunteer local Landcare Groups across the Lithgow and Oberon LGA's and build upon the community engagement of Landcare based initiatives. You will Provide support to local Landcare Groups, networks and landholders while working to extend and expand community-based Landcare initiatives across the LGA's.

Your experience in bushland and grassland eco-system rehabilitation practices will contribute to the organising and leading of on-ground projects undertaken by our range of local farming and residential communities which positively impact upon the maintenance of healthy and sustainable natural areas. Additionally, you will secure and supervise internal and external funded contracts and grant funded programs, which can further support the range of community environmental rehabilitation programs across the LGA's.

To be successful in the role you will meet all the essential selection criteria and have specialist knowledge and experience in natural area management and experience in providing training in on-ground related skills such as bush regeneration and weed control activities. You will at times also be required to be flexible in their working hours which will involve some attendance on weekend days and out-of-hours activities. Additionally, you will need to have well developed communication, report writing and conflict resolution skills.

  • Between $78,785.20 and $88,520.64 per year, commensurate with your skills, qualifications and experience. .

Preferred applicants will be required to undertake a pre-employment medical, which includes a drug and alcohol screening and functional assessment. Preferred applicants may be subject to reference checks, driving history checks, qualification checks, a NSW Police Check, a Working with Children check and confirmation of your Right to Work in Australia.
