About the role

We are seeking to appoint an Aboriginal Programs Officer (Identified) in the Contestable Grants team to support the implementation of a range of NSW Environmental Trust grant programs. The primary focus for this role will be to deliver and administer the Protecting Our Places grants program.

About you

We are looking for dedicated, proactive individuals who will be able to hit the ground running in this role. A confident communicator, you will need to be happy building relationships at all levels and be able to manage a variety of both internal and external stakeholders.

You will be confident integrating current knowledge of working with Aboriginal significant sites and you will be able to adapt your approach to suit a variety of audiences. You will also support and promote the Department’s broader Aboriginal initiatives.

You will be responsible for:

  • providing guidance to prospective applicants for funding under Environmental Trust grant programs, including the Protecting Our Places Program
  • assisting successful applicants to deliver high-quality grant projects on time and within budget
  • Prepare agendas, reports, and materials, including decisions made under delegation, and strategic advice for submission to management on issues relevant to the effective administration of grants programs and the Trust
  • Liaise and network with relevant communities in relation to environmental issues, share and
  • exchange information and ensure that the needs of these communities are being met where possible.
  • Provide secretariat functions to relevant Technical Committees to ensure that meetings operate effectively and efficiently, and the best use is made of the members’ time
  • Contribute to the delivery of program evaluation recommendations for the continuous improvement of the Protecting Our Places program.

Essential requirements

  • This is an identified role under Section 14d of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977 and as such Aboriginality is an essential requirement of the role. Aboriginal identified positions are developed where Aboriginal identity, cultural knowledge or connections are a genuine aspect of the role. Positions are specifically noted under the provisions of the NSW Anti-discrimination Act (1977) for Aboriginal people who meet the following criteria:
    • is of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent, and
    • identifies as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person, and
    • is accepted as such by the Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander community
