About the Role:

We are seeking an experienced Consulting Arborist to join our team. You will be responsible for providing expert advice and guidance on tree management, including:

  • Tree health and conditions assessment,
  • Tree hazard risk assessment, and,
  • Managing and mitigating development impacts on trees.

We are a small but highly skilled group of specialists committed to providing the highest quality of service to our clients and improving environmental standards in our industry.  You will form part of a hand-picked team of environmental planners, ecologists, and arborists with more than 40 years of experience.

Requirements:

The successful candidate will have:

  • Minimum AQF Level 5 Diploma of Arboriculture or ISA Certified Arborist qualification.
  • Open driver’s license.
  • General construction induction training card (or be willing to obtain within 3 months).

Duties / Responsibilities:

  • Be able to visually identify trees to species level.
  • Survey tree locations, measure and collect tree data.
  • Conduct tree health and condition assessments according to relevant standards and industry best practices.
  • Conduct tree risk and hazard assessments and provide recommendations for hazard reduction and risk mitigation.
  • Prepare, manage and analyse tree survey data according to office procedures.
  • Interpret and analyse plans and reports and liaise with other consultants to identify potential impacts of development on trees.
  • Quantitatively assess the impacts of development on trees using GIS and CAD software according to office procedures.
  • Identify and implement design and management measures to avoid or mitigate development impacts on trees.
  • Prepare reports, plans, and correspondence including:
    • ­ Tree health and condition assessments,
    • ­ Tree risk and hazard assessments, and,
    • ­ Impact assessment reports.
  • Prepare tree or vegetation management plans, including maps and scaled plans according to office procedures and industry best practices.
  • Prepare work methods statements.
  • Provide expert advice and guidance on tree planting, pruning, and removal.
  • Prepare, lodge and actively manage applications for vegetation management works.
  • Develop and implement tree management plans and arboricultural assessment reports.
  • Following relevant standards, policies, procedures and approvals:
    • ­ Coordinate and implement pre-construction requirements,
    • ­ Supervise and certify construction and operational activities,
    • ­ Audit and inspect sites for compliance with any relevant development conditions and statutory requirements, and,
    • ­ Coordinate any remedial or rectification works as required.
  • Supervise and manage rehabilitation works including:
    • ­ Obtain quotes and appoint and manage contractors,
    • ­ Supervise the implementation of rehabilitation plans in accordance with development approvals,
    • ­ Coordinate any remedial or rectification works as required, and,
    • ­ Arrange and conduct meetings with contractors and/or Council officers.
  • Assess, supervise, carry out and/or direct fauna management works including:
    • ­ Pre-clearing inspection of vegetation and structures for wildlife and/or wildlife habitat,
    • ­ Wildlife protection, salvage / capture, translocation and release, and,
    • ­ Wildlife treatment and transport to hospital or rehabilitation carer.
  • Perform administrative tasks and provide project management support for the team across a range of projects.

Knowledge, Skills & Experience:

  • Ability to acquire and maintain up-to-date knowledge of arboricultural best practices, regulations, and industry trends.
  • Accurate identification of trees to species level.
  • Experience working on construction sites.
  • Ability to read and interpret plans.
  • Ability to appoint and effectively manage contractors.
  • Ability to manage projects, including planning, budgeting, and time management.
  • Flexibility in handling diverse tasks.
  • Ability to undertake detailed and accurate record-keeping.
  • Experience in spatial mapping software including ESRI products (preferred).
  • Computer literacy and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication, strategic planning, and relationship-building skills, combined with a flexible, client-focused approach to project management and problem-solving.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
