Join us for a conversation with Taronga's Director of Welfare, Conservation and Science Nick Boyle, Xylo Systems Founder Camille Goldstone-Henry and AirSeed's Head of Ecology Charlotte Mills on the opportunities for conservationists and environmentalists to turn their expertise into exciting startup ventures and how this can be a win-win for you and the planet!

Nick Boyle - Director of Welfare, Conservation and Science, Taronga Conservation Society Australia

Nick has worked in the zoo and aquarium industry since 2002, and at Taronga since 2007. During his time at Taronga Nick has undertaken a range of roles including Zoo Keeper, Precinct Manager, Curator, Manager Conservation Health and Welfare, and Acting Director of Taronga Western Plains Zoo. In his current role Nick leads the Welfare, Conservation and Science division, with responsibility for Taronga’s strategic focus areas ‘Conservation Outcomes’ and ‘Animals in Our Care’. Nick has oversight for Taronga’s conservation programs and partnerships, science and research, Wildlife Hospitals, Nutrition Department and Animal Population and Welfare team. Nick has a background in law, biological sciences and communication. Nick is an Advisory Board Member to the Conservation Centres for Species Survival (C2S2), an Executive Committee Member of the Southern Black Rhino Sustainability Program and sits on the NSW Schools Animal Care and Ethics Committee. He is also a member of the Zoo and Aquarium Association Animal Management Committee and a co-convenor of the Australasian Ungulate Taxonomic Advisory Group. 

Camille Goldstone-Henry, CEO & Founder of Xylo Systems

Camille is a scientist, Kamilaroi woman and CEO & founder of biodiversity tech start-up, Xylo Systems. She has been lucky enough to work with endangered species around the world in her wildlife conservation career, including Tasmanian devils and Sumatran tigers. Founded by Camille in 2020, Xylo Systems is a cloud-based platform using artificial intelligence to connect, track and manage conservation projects so that we can tackle the extinction crisis faster, together. Xylo Systems is already an award-winning start-up and Camille has been awarded honours including the Women’s Weekly Woman of the Future award 2021, NSW Young Woman of the Year finalist 2022 and winner of two Women in AI 2022 awards for her passion in bringing together for wildlife and tech to turbocharge wildlife conservation and preserve biodiversity for future generations.

Charlotte Mills, Head of Ecology at AirSeed

Charlotte is a community ecologist by training and the head of ecology at AirSeed, where she is responsible for product development and project delivery. She completed her PhD in desert ecology in 2019, and has published 11 scientific publications. Charlotte's experience ranges across a number of environmental industries and she has almost 10 years' experience designing and delivering ecological projects from the desert to the tropics. Working at a start-up, Charlotte is rapidly learning about the world of business while getting to apply her technical skills to the real world, and thoroughly enjoying it.
