Costa brings the landcare community together online during Landcare Week for the National Landcare Conference & Awards Events
Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, particularly the lockdown in Sydney, this year’s 2021 National Landcare Conference and 2021 National Landcare Awards events will be hosted online.
With so many of our delegates, speakers, Landcare Awards finalists, sponsors and exhibitors travelling from across Australia and regional NSW, there was also a risk that many people would have been required to quarantine on their return home. We have been working closely all year with the venue and our professional conference organiser to ensure that we could produce an event that is a safe environment for everyone.
We are simply taking the event from the ICC Darling Harbour Sydney and hosting it online – we still have an incredible program for all the delegates!
Over 60 speakers will be live streamed and recorded – so that if you miss a speaker, you can watch them at a later date.
The online conference will be attended through the venue’s purpose-built platform designed for all participants to get the most out of the conference and awards events.
MC and Landcare Champion Costa Georgiadis, will bring together over 60 speakers including Keynote John Anderson and guest speaker David Lindenmayer.
They will be joined by a hugely diverse range of speakers from the landcare community, government representatives and academics in 40 sessions across the four conference streams: Sustainable Agriculture; Environment and Climate Change; Community Partnerships in Action; and Landcare Impact.
Delegates will also have the opportunity to attend panel discussions on a variety of topics sure to be of interest to so many involved in Landcare:
Author, filmmaker and Indigenous fire practitioner, Victor Steffensen will be a special guest speaker along with Barry Hunter, for an engaging talk on Country, sharing the advantages and benefits that embracing cultural burn methods can bring to help the Landcare community tackle climate change. The panel will include a conversation on how farmers and landowners can get started and have conversations with Traditional Owners. The Cultural Land Management panel has been scheduled at a very special time of Friday afternoon to close the conference along with young landcare leader and Kalari Wiradjjuri woman, Dhani Gilbert.
A highlight of the conference program is the 2021 National Landcare Awards to celebrate the 69 finalists from the 2019 State & Territory Landcare Awards, where winners of the nine National Landcare Awards categories will be announced. The winners of the Bob Hawke Landcare Award and the General Jeffery Soil Health Award will also be announced.
Included in your online conference registration, is access to watch LIVE the 2021 National Landcare Awards event. From the comfort of your own home, or with family, friends or your local landcare or community group – you can support the finalists and learn more about their projects. You may feel inspired to nominate for an award for someone you know - nominations for the 2021 State & Territory Landcare Awards are open! We are fortunate to have Costa as MC, his energy and passion for landcare will bring the online audience together and champion the speakers and Landcare Awards finalists.
It will be like watching our very own Gardening Australia – but Landcare in Australia.
