The River Styles Framework provides a scientific basis for geomorphically-informed, integrative river management. Increasing adoption of River Styles in Australia and around the world makes a working knowledge of the Framework a significant professional advantage.

About the course

The River Styles Short Course introduces participants to Stage 1 of the River Styles Framework, which assesses geomorphic character and behaviour of rivers. The course is invaluable for river management practitioners and more than 400 people have been trained so far.

The River Styles Short Course is a 5-day program packed with:

  • field visits
  • hands-on practical exercises
  • informative seminars

The course is structured to teach knowledge of the River Styles Framework and develop interpretive skills in the field.

Participants will gain skills and knowledge required for undertaking River Styles assessments, including assessment of river character and behaviour. It will also cover discussion and demonstration of how river managers working across scales can leverage River Styles data to inform river management practice.

Participants over the past 20 years of River Styles courses have served scientific, policy and planning staff from National, State and Local Governments, river management consultants, Landcare/Rivercare officers, ecologists, postgraduate students and others.
