2019 Waves of the Future Conference - Cairns, 23-27 September

Marine Teachers Association of Queensland

The Marine Teachers Association Qld aims to foster curiosity, imagination, knowledge and enthusiasm for 'real world' science through the provision of education in Marine and Aquatic skills and knowledge at the Primary, Middle and Secondary school levels.

Our annual conference is the professional development event, which brings together educators, environmental managers, researchers, universities, research facilities, education facilitators, community groups and industry bodies to provide educators with contemporary and syllabus relevant information to take to their “classrooms” and inform students.

  • The conference will be kicked off with a social BBQ on the Monday evening, Tuesday and Thursday are full of presentations / workshops and Wednesday includes tours of local Aquaculture and Aquarium facilities.
  • There will be a reef trip on Friday 27th to provide opportunity to immerse oneself in the local environment and put to the test the practical skills presented at the conference (we are also looking into a separate "family" reef trip on the same day).
  • There will also be a Coral Watch Workshop on Saturday, 28th September (this will be a separate registration).

If you are interested in volunteering for MTAQ, in particular assisting in publicity for the organisation or conference, please contact us through our website.
