About the role

The Environmental Outreach and Communications Coordinator (Program Coordinator) is for the ‘HSBC Citizen Science Program: Creating the case for water ecosystem protection and restoration’, a new partnership between Deakin University, HSBC Australia and Earth Watch Institute Australia.

Coordinate the program, as well as promote other research by Deakin’s Blue Carbon Lab through outreach and communications relating to wetlands and their provision of ecosystem services, particularly blue carbon.

This will include:

  • Coordinating the day-to-day activities and the delivery of all events, meetings and activities for the HSBC Citizen Science Program and monitor, evaluate, report, and promote the outcomes of the program.
  • Writing grants relating to the research activities of Deakin’s Blue Carbon Lab, under guidance of the Supervisor, with a particular focus on wetlands and their provision of ecosystem services.
  • Coordinating the communication and dissemination of research by Deakin’s Blue Carbon Lab through social media (e.g. Twitter), stakeholder reports, public speaking, websites, and outreach materials.
  • Corresponding with HSBC and Earthwatch stakeholders for the smooth functioning of the HSBC Citizen Science Program activities.

About you

  • Completion of a degree (or higher) in Environmental Studies.
  • Extensive experience in environmental communications, including written, oral and social media.
  • Demonstrated highly developed environmental project/event management skills, understanding of environmental stakeholder needs and ability to address them effectively.
  • Demonstrated communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to produce clear and accurate communications that are appropriate for their intended audience.
