Position Purpose

The Ranger Supervisor supports the Base Senior Ranger in the day-to-day supervision and coordination of ranger activities at the Mount Garnet Ranger Base.

The role provides on-ground supervision, mentoring, and operational support to Rangers while actively participating in fieldwork and land management activities.

The position helps ensure that ranger operations are:

• Delivered effectively
• Aligned with Girringun priorities and cultural values

Key Responsibilities

Field Supervision & Team Support

• Supervise Rangers and field teams during daily operations
• Provide on-ground guidance, mentoring, and support to Rangers
• Assist with task allocation and ensure work is completed to standard
• Promote teamwork, accountability and positive work culture

Ranger Duties (On-Country Work)

• Participate in land management activities
• Support environmental programs (fire, weeds, pests, monitoring)
• Conduct patrols, inspections and field-based activities
• Operate vehicles, trailers, and equipment safely

Support to Base Operations

• Assist the Base Senior Ranger to implement work plans and schedules
• Support coordination of field logistics (equipment, vehicles, supplies)
• Help maintain readiness for operations and field deployment
• Step into leadership role when required (acting support role)

Cultural Engagement

• Work respectfully with Traditional Owners and Elders on Country
• Follow and support cultural protocols in all activities
• Assist with integrating cultural knowledge into ranger work
• Support on-country visits, cultural activities, and community engagement

Workplace Health & Safety

• Follow WHS procedures and ensure safe practices in the field
• Assist with risk assessments, pre-starts and safety checks
• Monitor team safety and escalate issues to Senior Ranger
• Promote a strong safety culture within the team

Administration & Reporting

• Maintain daily activity records and field notes
• Assist with reporting on ranger activities and incidents
• Support equipment tracking and maintenance records
• Provide updates to the Base Senior Ranger

Selection Criteria

Essential

• Experience in land and/or sea Country management
• Experience leading or supervising teams
• Ability to work in remote and on-Country environments
• Understanding of Aboriginal cultural protocols
• Strong communication and teamwork skills
• Ability to organize and support field activities
• Current QLD Driver License (manual Preferred)
• Blue Card (working with Children) or must obtain one in 2 months
• Ability to undertake physically demanding outdoor work and pass a medical

Desirable

• Relevant qualification (e.g. Conservation & Ecosystem Management)
• Experience in fire, pest, or environmental programs
• Relevant tickets (e.g. 4WD, First Aid, Chainsaw)
• Experience with GPS, mapping or monitoring tools

Workplace Requirements

• Ability to travel and stay overnight in remote locations
• Ability to work flexible hours when required
• Participation in field operations, camping and remote work
• Ability to support emergency and operational responses
