Mulgrave Landcare is seeking a passionate and reliable Field worker to support our projects. This role involves working across our native plant nursery, and field-based activities, including site prep, planting, weed control, habitat restoration and water sampling. This is a physically demanding, hands-on role suited to someone who enjoys working outdoors, cares deeply about the environment, and thrives as part of a small, committed team.

General

  • Follow WHS procedures and contribute to a safe working environment
  • Manage time and prioritise tasks 
  • Assist with equipment servicing, maintenance and storage
  • Attend training sessions and team meetings as required
  • Represent Mulgrave Landcare in a professional and positive manner
  • Ability to perform physically demanding outdoor work in a range of weather conditions while managing heat stress
  • Ability to assess weather conditions and make decisions for work tasks
  • Reliable, punctual, and able to work individually and as part of a team
  • Good communication skills

Field Duties

  • Support revegetation efforts through site preparation, planting, mulching, and watering
  • Select and use controls for weed and pest management
  • Use tools and machinery safely and effectively
  • Proficient in manoeuvring trailers
  • Safe and critical thinking when driving in all conditions
  • Participate and help organise community events
  • Basic plant identification skills or a keen willingness to learn
  • Assist with seed collection, propagation, potting, watering, weeding, and general care of native seedlings
  • Maintain nursery hygiene and ensure work areas are clean and well-organized
  • Help prepare orders for tree plantings
  • Monitor plant health and report pests, disease, or growth concerns
  • Adhere to strict guidelines for collecting and processing water samples for water quality monitoring
  • Help maintain accurate records across activities

Essential

  • Certificate III in Conservation & Land Management or equivalent experience in revegetation settings
  • Current driver’s licence
  • Current First Aid and CPR
  • Commercial Operator’s Licence (ACDC)
  • Level 1 basic Chainsaw operations competency
  • Blue Card (desirable)

Hours and Conditions

  • Work hours are 30-38hrs a week, generally worked between 6am and 6pm Monday to Friday, with occasional weekend work as required for community plantings.
  • Pay rate calculated according to experience and qualifications based on the Gardening and Landscaping award classifications.
