The role is based at Churchill, Gippsland, Victoria, an area known for its natural beauty and lifestyle opportunities at your fingertips.

The Opportunity:

The role reports to the Gippsland Silviculture Manager and requires you to provide leadership and coordination for the management of the Region’s fire risk mitigation initiatives.

You would assist the Region by coordinating targeted operational forestry programs to enhance effectiveness and achieve specific objectives. This also includes regional fire management, contractor and resource coordination, stakeholder engagement and a constant focus on environmental compliance and safety.

The opportunity allows you to -

  • Take a central role in providing leadership and coordination for fire risk mitigation initiatives
  • Develop fuel management strategies and coordinate fire preparedness activities across the Region
  • Support and mentor graduates to foster their professional development
  • Coordinate fire training opportunities, exercises and scenarios for staff, crew and contractors
  • Build productive relationships with CFA, FFMVic, DEECA and other Emergency Response Agencies

What you will need to succeed:

  • Demonstrated expertise in operations coordination of teams, contractors and resources
  • Well-developed team leadership skills and demonstrated positive team building behaviours
  • Current qualification as FFMV/CFA, or equivalent, Crew Leader or above
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the management of wildfire risk in forest and plantation environments
  • Knowledge of and commitment to environmental and safety performance of operations to requisite standards
  • Planning and GIS mapping skills
  • An ability to work well under pressure
  • Well organised with an eye for detail
  • Ability to communicate clearly and confidently both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with stakeholders at all levels
  • A relevant tertiary qualification and/or a Certificate IV in Training & Assessment would be well regarded but not mandatory
