What You'll Be Doing

With the continued success and growth of our Adelaide team, we are looking for a motivated and  enthusiastic Principal Environmental Approvals Consultant to join us. Our Approvals team supports a  diverse range of projects, working closely with our Ecology, Surface Water, Groundwater, Bushfire and  Environmental Management specialists to deliver integrated environmental outcomes. 

The Principal Environmental Approvals Consultant will play a key leadership role in strengthening and  growing Eco Logical Australia's environmental approvals capability in South Australia. This position  requires a highly experienced environmental approvals specialist with extensive knowledge of South  Australian and Commonwealth environmental and planning legislation, along with a proven track  record delivering complex approvals projects.

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Provide strategic leadership and expert advice on South Australian and Commonwealth  environmental approvals, planning frameworks and regulatory requirements. 
  • Lead the delivery of complex environmental approvals projects, ensuring high-quality  technical outcomes, client satisfaction and regulatory compliance.
  • Mentor early career team members, supporting capability development and fostering  technical excellence. 
  • Lead the preparation and review of environmental impact assessments, approvals  documentation and environmental management plans. 
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, regulators, government agencies and  other stakeholders. 
  • Identify and pursue business development opportunities, contribute to proposal preparation  and support the growth of the South Australian approvals practice. 
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver integrated environmental solutions across  a diverse range of projects. 
  • Maintain a strong understanding of emerging legislation, policy changes and industry best  practice to provide informed strategic advice.

What You'll Bring

This role will allow you to combine your passion for environmental management, industry networking  and well-developed writing and project management skills to create high quality work and great  outcomes for our clients and the environment. We think you will love this role if you’re the type of  person who has:

  • A degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Management, Planning or related field
  • At least 10 years industry experience (as a guide) 
  • Consulting experience (highly desirable) 
  • Business development experience, and a proven track record of winning work
  • Experience mentoring others in your area of expertise  
  • Confidence in meeting, advising and working with clients and regulators 
  • Working knowledge of environmental legislation, including the South Australian Planning, Development and Infrastructure Act 2016, South Australian Mining Act 1971, and the  Commonwealth Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 
  • Experience in preparing a range of high-quality consulting reports, including for environmental  assessment, planning approvals, monitoring and management 
  • Sound communication skills and demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with others both  internally and externally 
  • Current driver’s licence and ability to travel as required.
