The Organisation 

Our country is a living landscape – our culture, heritage, laws and language are linked to the land. 

Mimal Land Management’s Indigenous Protected Area was declared in 2025 across 16,506 square kilometres in south-central Arnhem Land. The IPA management plan was developed through in-depth consultation with more than 20 clan groups who collaborated with Indigenous rangers, researchers and scientists to map and prioritise Mimal’s environmental and cultural assets, identify threats and outline ways to manage them. 

The area’s natural and cultural assets are managed by Mimal Rangers on behalf of and in cooperation with landowners and custodians. 

Under an established Healthy Country Plan, the rangers manage land, water and fire, and conduct wildlife protection, monitoring and revegetation programs, weed and feral animal control, and carry out rock art, cultural history and language projects, and learning on country education programs with school children. 

The Opportunity 

The Ranger Coordinator, based at Weemol Ranger Base in Arnhem Land, Northern Territory, plays a critical role in the on-ground implementation of Mimal Land Management Aboriginal Corporation’s land management strategies on behalf of Traditional Owners. The coordinator will work closely with the Mimal Land Management CEO, other coordinators, and the core workforce of 30 full-time and seasonal casual staff to coordinate day-to-day administrative tasks and on-ground works. The Ranger Coordinator will also be responsible for supporting on-the-job training and leading by example in the delivery of fire, weed, and feral animal management projects. 

About You 

• You have demonstrated experience coordinating land management projects, ideally in remote and/or Indigenous contexts 
• You have strong practical knowledge of fire, weed and feral animal management 
• You have proven ability to lead, mentor and support a team in field-based environments 
• You are highly organised with solid administrative skills and ability to manage competing priorities 
• You have experience monitoring project delivery, tracking progress and maintaining accurate records 
• You are capable of preparing budgets, work plans and reports and supporting procurement processes 
• You have strong communication skills with ability to build respectful, productive relationships 
• You are committed to culturally appropriate practice and working collaboratively with Indigenous communities 
• You are willing to support training, capacity building and workforce development 
• You also focus on safety, quality standards and continuous improvement 

You’ll also bring: 

• A current driver’s licence with 4WD experience and basic vehicle maintenance skills 
• Eligibility to obtain a firearm licence and Ochre Card (or equivalent clearances) 

Desirable: 

• Qualifications in land management, environmental science or related field 
• Experience in project management including budgeting and reporting 
• Knowledge of carbon projects or carbon credit schemes 
• Familiarity with relevant legislation and land management frameworks 
• Understanding of communities, organisations and country in the Mimal IPA region
