About the role:

We are seeking a collaborative leader with strong scientific expertise who can build and maintain partnerships, identify and pursue new opportunities, drive innovation across our programs, and contribute to the growth of our organisational culture as a member of our leadership team.

This pivotal role is leading the delivery of one of our longest-running and most significant conservation programs, protecting and conserving the wetlands and floodplains of SA's River Murray, and the species that depend on them. The role leads a small team of freshwater ecologists across multiple locations, providing strategic leadership for environmental water planning, project delivery, monitoring, resourcing and infrastructure management.

The Team Leader, Wetland and Floodplain Management works closely with a wide range of stakeholders, environmental groups, contractors and agencies to develop and deliver projects.

What you'll bring to the role:

We are looking for someone with:

• A strong understanding of environmental, social and economic issues affecting the Murray-Darling Basin, including relevant legislation, policy and management frameworks, particularly in South Australia.
• Recognised expertise and relevant qualifications in wetland and floodplain ecology and/or environmental water management at a landscape scale.
• Experience and proven ability to deliver natural resource management, environmental water, wetland or floodplain projects and programs.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, and experience designing and implementing investigations, assessments or studies.
• Experience in managing effective stakeholder relationships, with the ability to influence and collaborate across diverse groups.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, including report writing, presentations and technical advice.
• Demonstrated adaptability, initiative and resilience in a dynamic and changing environment.
• Understanding of public sector governance, administration and business management practices.

What you will need:

• A tertiary qualification in Natural Resources Management, Environmental Management, Biological/Ecological Sciences, or equivalent is essential and post graduate qualifications in business management (particularly public sector) or project management may provide an advantage.
• A current First Aid Certificate is desirable.
• A current minimum class C driver's licence and willingness and ability to safely operate a 4WD is required (training can be provided to the successful applicant).
• Eligibility for this position requires a valid Australian working visa.
• Appointment will be subject to a satisfactory Criminal History Check (all positions) and South Australian Working With Children Check (if applicable).

Additional details:

• Remuneration: Classification PO4 $122,752 min - $133,635 max p.a (Effective 1/7/2026)
• Term contract: Minimum 3 year contract with the potential for extension.
