The South Coast Region extends 1,200 km from Denmark to Eucla at the South Australian border and includes 14 national parks and 150 nature reserves covering 2.5 million hectares plus 7 million hectares of unallocated Crown land (UCL). National parks include Torndirrup, Porongurup, Stirling Range, Fitzgerald River, West Cape Howe, Gull Rock, Waychinicup, Stokes, Cape Le Grand, Cape Arid and Eucla.

We are currently seeking a Senior Ranger (Marine) to join our new marine team who will be responsible for leading a small team of Aboriginal Rangers to implement 3 of the 4 management plans that make up the South Coast Marine Parks.

Under the direction of the Marine Park Coordinator, this position leads marine and coastal conservation programmed operational activities in the Esperance District, including:

  • The delivery of the annual marine and coastal works program consistent with the Marine Park Management Plan mainly for the Mirning Marine Park, as well as for Western Bight Marine Park and Wudjari Marine Park when required, in the Esperance District.
  • Cultural heritage monitoring in partnership with Mirning Peoples and the Western Australian Mirning People Aboriginal Corporation (WAMPAC).
  • Supervision and career development of the Aboriginal Ranger team.
  • Undertaking compliance patrols and maintaining departmental equipment, infrastructure and vessels.
  • Assisting with developing and delivering community education and interpretive works programs.

The successful applicant will be required to possess or obtain a current National Police Check prior to commencement.
