The Role:

As the Finance & Payroll Officer, you will play a key role in ensuring the smooth and accurate operation of our financial and payroll functions. You will be responsible for maintaining financial records, managing end-to-end payroll processes, and supporting the organisation's compliance and reporting requirements.

In this position, you will process invoices and payments, reconcile accounts, and prepare financial reports, ensuring all data is accurate and delivered in a timely manner. You'll also ensure employees are paid correctly and on schedule, while providing support and clear information to both staff and management.

This role is ideal for someone who is detail-oriented, highly organised, and committed to maintaining high standards of accuracy and confidentiality in all financial operations.

Key Duties include:

Payroll Management

• Manage full end-to-end payroll processing.
• Calculate employee entitlements including leave, overtime, and superannuation compliance.
• Review and reconcile payroll journal into the accounting system.
• Serve as the primary contact for staff payroll queries and collaborate with HR on Award updates.

Financial Operations

• Maintain core financial records including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and bank reconciliations.
• Process invoices, payments, receipts, and corporate credit cards with precise account and job coding.
• Assist with audit preparation, grant expenditure tracking, and month-end/year-end ledger reconciliations.

Administration & Compliance

• Compile financial data to support BAS, FBT, and end-of-year STP finalisations.
• Maintain strict confidentiality while managing secure filing systems for statutory record retention.

About you:

You're a reliable and detail-oriented finance professional with a strong commitment to accuracy, integrity, and compliance. You bring a proactive approach to financial and payroll operations, along with the ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment. We're looking for someone who offers both technical expertise and a collaborative mindset, as well as:

• Qualifications & Experience: Demonstrated experience in bookkeeping, accounting, or finance, supported by a Diploma or higher qualification (or equivalent), with a proven ability to manage end-to-end payroll processes accurately and on time.
• Technical Proficiency: Proficiency in accounting software such as Xero, WEEL cards, or similar systems, with experience with Employment Hero or similar cloud-based payroll platforms (desirable).
• Compliance & Accuracy: Strong understanding of financial regulations, compliance requirements, and reporting standards, with exceptional attention to detail and a high level of accuracy in financial and payroll processing.
• Core Competencies: High level of integrity, professionalism, and ability to maintain strict confidentiality, combined with strong organisational and time management skills to prioritise tasks effectively.
• Communication & Collaboration: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with respectful and professional interpersonal abilities to be self-motivated, adaptable, and solutions-focused.
• Cultural & Sector Fit: Experience working with Indigenous organisations or within the not-for-profit sector, understanding of grant and funding financial management (desirable), and demonstrated cultural respect and a genuine commitment to working with Aboriginal communities.
