The opportunity

We are looking for a Senior Heritage Consultant for our NSW Heritage business, with experience in Aboriginal cultural heritage. Experience in historical heritage management will also be considered favourably.

In this role you will be responsible for the technical management of Heritage proposals and projects, including leading consultation with First Peoples rights and stakeholders. Efficient and effective community engagement, project management, compliance, technical quality, and delivery are key focus areas of this position. Together with a developing level of marketing of Niche’s services and developing client relationships.

This role is responsible for technical outputs and collaborates with the Manager and senior team members to ensure Project Delivery Excellence.

Key responsibilities

  • Prepare Impact Statements, Management Plans, and due diligence assessments.
  • Prepare high-quality reports and management plans in compliance with relevant legislation and standards
  • Conduct Aboriginal and historical heritage assessments, including field surveys, stakeholder consultation, and reporting.
  • Manage a diverse project portfolio from initiation through to completion, ensuring timelines and budgets are met.
  • Engage with Traditional Owner groups, government agencies, and industry stakeholders.
  • Provide strategic advice on heritage compliance in NSW
  • Conduct internal technical review and quality control of reports and proposals, including processes.
  • Produces accurate and complex technical deliverables, analysis and reports.
  • Authors or co-authors abstracts, papers, presentations for and at industry specific events or conferences.
  • Mentor and support junior team members in heritage investigations and reporting.

Our ideal candidate

  • Honours or equivalent degree in Archaeology, Heritage Management or related discipline.
  • Experience in Aboriginal Cultural Heritage (ACH) (ideally).
  • Minimum 9 years of experience in heritage consulting, with a focus on renewables or infrastructure projects.
  • Previous experience managing projects from end to end.
  • Strong understanding of NSW heritage legislation and approvals processes.
  • Demonstrated experience conducting fieldwork and stakeholder consultation.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
  • Full Australian working rights and a valid driver’s licence.
