Work directly with landholders to support climate-smart, sustainable agriculture

The Burnett Mary Regional Group (BMRG) is seeking an engaging and self-driven Sustainable Agriculture Facilitator (SAF) to support farmers and landholders across the region to adopt more sustainable, productive and climate-resilient practices.

This role plays a key part in connecting landholders with the right information, tools and support to improve on-farm outcomes.

You'll work at the intersection of agriculture, community and environment, building trusted relationships, facilitating knowledge-sharing, and supporting real change on the ground.

About the Role

The Sustainable Agriculture Facilitator is a highly autonomous, field-based role responsible for leading engagement, extension and knowledge-sharing activities across the Burnett Mary region.

You'll act as a central point of contact for farmers, landholders and industry, proactively building relationships, identifying opportunities, and supporting the adoption of climate-smart and sustainable agriculture practices.

In this role, you will lead and deliver workshops, field days and community engagement activities, while also contributing to broader project delivery across BMRG's agriculture programs.

You'll also support emerging priorities including climate change adaptation, on-farm emissions reduction, carbon and biodiversity markets, and biosecurity, helping landholders navigate a changing agricultural landscape.

Working closely with the Sustainable Agriculture team, you'll contribute to program reporting, support development of management plans, and help translate on-ground activities into meaningful outcomes for stakeholders and funders.

About You

You're an engaging and confident communicator who enjoys working with landholders and rural communities. You're comfortable in front of a group, able to build trust quickly, and confident navigating different perspectives in community settings.

You bring a practical understanding of agriculture and enjoy helping others improve how they manage land, productivity and sustainability outcomes. You're organised, proactive and able to work independently, planning your own activities, following through, and delivering results.

We're looking for someone with:

• Minimum 2-3 years' experience in agriculture, land management, extension, or a related field
• A background in agriculture, natural resource management or similar, with practical or on-farm experience highly valued
• Strong communication skills, with confidence facilitating workshops, field days and stakeholder discussions
• Ability to proactively engage with community groups and industry networks, not just respond to enquiries
• Experience or interest in sustainable agriculture, climate resilience, emissions reduction or biosecurity
• Strong organisational skills and ability to plan and deliver activities independently
• Confidence using digital systems, with the ability to learn tools such as CRM platforms, MERIT and GIS systems
• Current open driver's licence, or the ability to obtain one within an agreed timeframe.

Qualifications & Desirable Skills

• Tertiary qualification in Agricultural Science, Natural Resource Management, Environmental Science or a related field
• Experience in extension, community engagement or stakeholder facilitation
• Familiarity with carbon or biodiversity markets, or climate-smart agriculture practices (desirable)
• Experience with GIS, mapping tools or spatial data (desirable)
• Ability to contribute to management plans, reporting and documentation
• Confidence generating on-ground content and insights to support communication and engagement
