About us

Second Nature Conservancy Inc. is a successful non-profit, non-government organisation, established in 1998 as Goolwa to Wellington Local Action Planning Association. We are dedicated to restoring biodiversity and sustainably managing natural resources. Our field crew carry out a number of environmental management tasks including revegetation, weed control and site maintenance. We have a busy tree planting season ahead and are looking for fit and enthusiastic individuals with a passion for nature to join our team, with the potential for further work.

About the role

We are looking for reliable, physically fit field crew members to join our hands-on team restoring native landscapes through revegetation and habitat restoration projects. This is real outdoor work: long days in all weather, manual handling, using tools and machinery and getting stuck into the dirt to make a tangible difference in bushland, wetlands and revegetation sites.

Typical tasks include:

  • tree planting (including operating petrol-powered augers)
  • weed control such as knapsack spraying and drill and fill
  • assisting in our plant nurseries
  • watering and brush cutting
  • assist with a variety of other tasks from time to time including reed planting, hand seeding, mulching and fencing.

If you thrive on physical work, enjoy being outdoors every day, and have a practical track record in land management or similar roles, you could be the right person to join our team.

Applicants available 4-5 days per week are preferred.

What we are looking for

Strong candidates will be motivated to help restore and reconstruct habitat for native flora and fauna conservation through hands-on field work. You will have a strong work ethic, including working as a member of a team to achieve targets and goals. Ideally, you will have knowledge of local native plant species and common weed species but training is provided. Applicants with experience working in farming, horticulture, landscaping or land management will be well suited to this role. Qualifications such as Cert II or III in Conservation and Land Management (CLM) or similar, nursery experience, ChemCert and Pest Management Technician Licence would be highly regarded.

Essential

  • Ability to achieve output and quality targets
  • Ability to work outdoors in varied terrain and weather
  • Ability to work constructively as part of a team
  • Physically fit
  • Self-motivated and enthusiastic

Desirable

  • Experience in Landscaping, Agriculture, Horticulture or Land Management or similar
  • Herbicide application / ChemCert / pest technician licence
  • Brushcutter or chainsaw experience
  • Skills/experience operating 4x4 vehicles and trailers
  • Working knowledge of native plant species and revegetation techniques

This is a practical role and applicants with Conservation Land Management (CLM), revegetation, native vegetation management, viticulture, landscaping, gardening, agricultural and similar backgrounds would be ideally suited.
