About Yanunijarra

Yanunijarra Aboriginal Corporation is the Registered Native Title Body Corporate for the Ngurrara People. Representing four language groups across a vast and remote determination area, Yanunijarra supports Traditional Owners to manage Country, protect cultural heritage and strengthen governance for future generations.

Through its Healthy Country Plan, Ngurrara and Yi Martuwarra Ranger Programs, Yanunijarra delivers culturally respected land management activities across the Warlu Jilajaa Jumu Indigenous Protected Area and broader Ngurrara and Yi Martuwarra determination areas.

The position can be based in Broome or Fitzroy Crossing, noting that no housing is provided for this position. The position reports to the General Manager.

Key Responsibilities

• Supervise and support Ranger Coordinators
• Oversee program budgets, expense tracking and financial reporting
• Ensure funding reports and acquittals are completed accurately and on time
• Report to the Healthy Country Steering Committee and Traditional Owners
• Identify new funding and fee-for-service opportunities
• Support ranger training, workforce development and capacity building
• Participate in on-country activities and represent Yanunijarra at regional forums

About You

You are an experienced land management or environmental scientist professional who is confident working in remote environments and alongside Aboriginal communities. You have an interest in working on-Country in a culturally grounded program led by Traditional Owners.

Essential

• Qualifications in Natural Resource Management, Environmental Science or related field
• Experience in prescribed fire burning and planned burning operations
• Demonstrated experience working with Aboriginal communities and/or Indigenous land management programs
• Strong project administration and practical on-field skills in remote desert country
• Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
• Experience working within Indigenous Ranger Programs or Indigenous Protected Areas
• Understanding of native title and Aboriginal community governance
• Technical skills relevant to ranger programs (weed control, GIS, cultural mapping, species identification, asset maintenance, workplace health and safety)
• Current driver’s licence
• Working With Children Check (or ability to obtain)
