Help manage natural wonders and cultural treasures in the Mackay region.

Are you ready to contribute to the management of one of Queensland’s iconic national parks? As part of the Pioneer team, you’ll play a key role in delivering the work unit's Operational Plan and Annual Work Plan under the guidance of the Ranger in Charge.

This role involves a variety of responsibilities, including operating and maintaining plant and equipment, managing pest plants and animals, conducting planned burns and wildfire suppression, and maintaining park infrastructure. You’ll also manage small projects, perform compliance activities, and support natural and cultural resource management. Practical skills in operating and maintaining tools and equipment are essential.

You’ll provide on-ground supervision to field-based staff, work collaboratively with others, and adapt to dynamic service needs to ensure high-quality park management. While most of your work will be field-based, you’ll also undertake administrative tasks such as record-keeping and procurement.

As an OO4 Ranger, you’ll:

  • Communicate effectively and work well in a team, as a supervisor, and independently.
  • Operate and maintain equipment, assist with annual work plans, and perform compliance duties.
  • Provide information to park visitors and stakeholders.
  • Assist with emergency responses and monitor workplace health and safety.
  • Support First Nations partnerships and deliver enforcement training.

This role requires environmental and service expertise, a strong work ethic, and the ability to work flexibly, including weekends and public holidays. A good level of physical fitness is essential, as is the ability to work in a semi-remote area.
