Build something. Shape our QLD business. Grow into a future leader.

At Onward, we’re not trying to be the biggest consultancy - just the most respected. We partner closely with clients across energy, renewables, infrastructure and resources to deliver environmental assessment, approvals and management solutions that genuinely move projects forward.

Our Brisbane team is growing, and we’re looking for an Environmental Project Manager who wants more than ‘just another consultancy role’.

This is your opportunity to shape the future of our QLD business, influence how we deliver projects, and grow with the team.

If you’re a driven mid‑level consultant ready for bigger responsibility, strategic exposure, and a team that actually backs you - this is the role to step into.

Why join Onward in Brisbane

Own your growth. Shape ours.

You’ll join a small-but-mighty team in QLD - which means:

  • real influence on how our Brisbane practice evolves
  • the freedom to build your own project portfolio
  • a genuine pathway to team leadership and business development responsibilities (without needing to be ‘salesy’)
  • exposure to the Managing Director and senior leaders every day
  • a place where your ideas actually change how we operate

Work on QLD and Australia’s major project pipeline

You’ll deliver work across:

  • resources and critical minerals projects
  • gas, pipeline and upstream development
  • renewable energy developments (solar, wind, hybrid generation)
  • transmission, grid-scale storage and critical infrastructure
  • complex approvals requiring strategic thinking and tight collaboration with regulators and clients

You’re not a small cog in a giant delivery machine - you’re a key part of how projects succeed.

A culture built on Connection, Tenacity and Excellence

We remove complexity, we back our people, and we do challenging work with a low-ego, high-trust approach.
It’s grown-up consulting. Pragmatic. No layers of red tape. No silos. Just good people doing meaningful work well.

The role - What you’ll lead

As our Brisbane Environmental Project Manager, you will:

  • deliver and coordinate environmental approvals, EIAs, EMPs, audits, monitoring programs and compliance reporting
  • plan, manage and track projects – budgets, scope, risks, delivery and client communication
  • analyse environmental data and identify risks, impacts and mitigation strategies
  • translate regulatory requirements into clear advice for clients
  • work with internal specialists and external partners to deliver multi‑disciplinary outcomes
  • take ownership of client relationships, ensuring quality delivery and trusted-advisor service
  • contribute to fee proposals, scoping and tender submissions
  • support internal quality assurance and elevate the standard of our deliverables
  • represent Onward in QLD, with the opportunity to build your network and shape our presence
  • mentor junior consultants and step gradually into leadership responsibilities

This role is perfect for someone who thrives in responsibility, enjoys autonomy, and wants to help build something meaningful in QLD.

About you

You’ll thrive here if you:

  • hold a degree in environmental science, engineering, planning or a related field
  • bring around 5+ years of environmental consulting or approvals experience
  • have strong knowledge of QLD and Commonwealth approvals pathways (EP Act, EPBC Act etc.)
  • are confident managing projects, schedules and deliverables
  • enjoy direct client contact and can translate technical detail into practical advice
  • want a role where you can grow into leadership – not wait years for a vacant box on an org chart
  • are collaborative, curious, pragmatic and keen to influence outcomes

What Onward offers

  • competitive remuneration
  • flexible working arrangements (including WFH)
  • salary packaging and lifestyle benefits
  • employee share option plan
  • support to undertake training, develop new skills and advance your career
  • the chance to build your career alongside the growth of our QLD business

This is a rare opportunity to join an emerging consultancy where you can genuinely see the impact of your work.
