About the Role:

A rare opportunity to join our team as a Floodplain Ecologist and implement a diverse ecological monitoring program to support floodplain environmental watering and management with a primary focus on the Chowilla Floodplain. The position will work closely with team members working on the Pike and Katarapko Floodplains and the River Murray Channel. Working both individually and collaboratively with other team members and external experts you will deliver ecological monitoring, undertake project management and provide advice relating to environmental water planning and implementation. The floodplains cultural significance also brings the opportunity to work with the Traditional Owners as well as with the broader community.

Contract: Ongoing Contract.

Essential Criteria (including qualifications):

  • A degree in environment, conservation, ecology or a related NRM discipline is essential.
  • Experience in the provision of accurate technical advice with regard to ecological science including the analysis / evaluation of monitoring results and data to support effective environmental management.
  • Demonstrated experience in implementing ecological monitoring in line with established methods.
  • Demonstrates good communication skills (verbal and written) in an applied science and/or NRM setting.

Desirable Criteria:

  • Experience working with Aboriginal Communities.
  • Project management experience / skills.
  • Experience coordinating a fieldwork team working in remote or isolated conditions.
  • Knowledge and experience of water for the environment.

Special Conditions:

  • May be required to participate in responses to state emergencies or associated duties.
  • You must be an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or provide evidence that you hold a valid working visa that allows you to work in Australia without restrictions.
  • A current class 'C' driver's licence and willingness and ability to safely operate a 4wd is essential.
  • May be required to undertake intra or interstate travel, occasional overnight absences, and work outside of the normal hours of work.
  • Role to be based in Berri.

Remuneration: PO2 $88,255 min - $97,667 max p.a.
