Cattle, Land & Conservation, Mount Magnet, WA Forever Wild Initiative

The Forever Wild Initiative is a new type of organisation in Australia, designed to drive progress in tackling climate change and biodiversity loss while also prioritising food security and economic viability. Our largest project is in Western Australia, spanning 600,000ha, running 2 separate production models within a highly biodiverse landscape.

The organisation focuses heavily on nature finance and on implementing large-scale projects that blend nature-centric business with conservation.

The Role: Landscape Program Assistant manager (Livestock, Machinery & Conservation)

This is an opportunity for someone with a strong interest in regenerative landscape management and the conservation of species and ecosystems.

The key skills we require are in livestock and machinery. We can teach you the conservation side of the role – you just need an interest in nature and truly sustainable land management, strong written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to think and work wholistically.

The successful applicant will be asked to dedicate themselves to an extraordinary landscape, helping to implement the production of high-quality, ecologically sound beef, land rehabilitation and contracting, and the conservation of rare and threatened species. The cattle herd size is small, the landscape is vast, and adventure is constant. It is important to note that a key part of the role is also the use and maintenance of large earth-moving equipment, so you must be familiar with the use and general maintenance of graders, loaders, skidsteers and trucks.

You will have access to high-quality training in livestock and conservation, career growth opportunities and interaction with all aspects of sustainable land management. If you have a rural background with skills in machinery for land management, a keen interest in regenerative agriculture, and nature, we want you to apply.

Duties

You will be asked to work to a budget, coordinate work on the ground through the use and maintenance of earth-moving machinery, assist in planning and implementing livestock operations and improvements, and support landscape-scale conservation management.

You will report directly to and work closely with the National Operations Manager, who will assist and guide you through the company’s vision. Key tasks include:

  • Work closely with the National Operations Manager to assist in managing all aspects of low-stress livestock husbandry, mustering, herd health, and breeding programs
  • Conduct heavy machinery operations, including for contracts on and off-station. Ensure machinery is fully up to spec and maintenance, with service intervals and records
  • Lead on-ground project implementation of property development plans including fencing, waters, and infrastructure
  • With full guidance from the science team, support applied conservation works for species and habitat condition, including landscape rehabilitation, surveys and supporting science teams in the field
  • Ensure accurate record keeping – i.e. NLIS, NVDs, cattle numbers and movements, vaccination records, time sheets, and bore records, conservation surveys, land data
  • Supervise project staff as required
  • General rural infrastructure building and maintenance
  • Lead with a focus on safety, performance, and integrity
  • Implement safety procedures and oversee WHS compliance
  • Maintain a positive and professional image for Forever Wild

Accommodation: a well-appointed, air-conditioned family homestead, with swimming pool and tennis court is included along with generous leave and remuneration.  The Forever Wild Initiative emphasises work-life balance.

  • Wifi included
  • Mobile tower at homestead
  • Long-term role potential with housing infrastructure suitable for families

Term: permanent full time

Salary package: An attractive salary, plus superannuation, accommodation, WiFi and generous leave is offered

Location: The position is located approx. 60km from Mount Magnet.
