As the City’s Arborist, you will make a meaningful contribution to the long-term health, growth, and resilience of Mandurah’s urban forest. Working collaboratively across the organisation, you will support the development and delivery of strategies that align with the City’s vision and community aspirations for tree planting, protection, and restoration. You will provide specialist arboricultural advice, along with training and mentoring, to embed best practice in tree planting, establishment, maintenance, and risk management.

To be successful in the Arborist position, you will need:

  • Diploma in Arboriculture (or demonstrated equivalent)
  • Eligible for, and willing to obtain, membership to Arboriculture Australia or International Society of Arboriculture
  • Qualified in QTRA, VALID or ISA-TRAQ

  • Minimum 5 years of demonstrated experience in:
    • project supervision and contract management of arboriculture works/tree surgery within the public realm
    • interpersonal and communication skills with experience in providing technical briefs and reports to senior level stakeholders on tree management issues
    • tree value and valuation processes
    • implementation and monitoring of programs and systems relevant to quality tree management processes

At the City, we are committed to supporting growth and professional development. Applications from candidates with the following experience and qualifications, and a willingness to undertake further study supported by the City, will also be considered to commence in the role of Tree Care Specialist (Level 6) and transition to the position of Arborist after successfully receiving a Diploma of Arboriculture:

  • Certificate III in Arboriculture (or demonstrated equivalent, such as Certificate III in Parks and Gardens, or Certificate III or IV in Horticulture)

  • Current unrestricted national driver’s licence
  • Minimum 3 years of demonstrated experience in:
