About the Role

The Sharing our Shores with Coastal Wildlife Coordinator plays a key role in delivering the Sharing our Shores with Coastal Wildlife project, funded by Green Adelaide through the Landscapes Levy.

This project aligns closely with and contributes to the delivery of BirdLife Australia’s Beach-nesting Birds Program, with a strong focus on threatened species including the Hooded Plover and Fairy Tern, as well as the national Migratory Shorebirds Conservation Action Plan.

The role will work collaboratively with agencies, local government, community groups and industry stakeholders to conserve and build resilience of coastal habitats, shorebird and seabird populations across the Green Adelaide, Hills and Fleurieu, and Northern and Yorke landscapes. There will be occasional opportunities to extend delivery of actions to other regions within South Australia.

Key responsibilities include:

• Coordinating and supporting volunteers, land managers and key stakeholders
• Advising on best-practice threat mitigation and coastal works
• Preparing reports, submissions and project documentation
• Delivering volunteer training, support and management
• Leading stakeholder engagement and community education activities
• Tracking contract delivery, budgeting and regular reporting

Selection Criteria 

Essential 

• A degree in Conservation Biology, Environmental Science or related field with experience working with coastal management related issues or coastal birds and at least two-years experience working in the environment or conservation sector.
• Strong understanding of coastal birds and habitat conservation issues including complexity of coastal policy, zoning and regulations, and challenges of bird conservation in this environment.
• Experience working with and managing volunteers to deliver project outcomes, including managing expectations and compliance issues.
• An appreciation and understanding of science-based conservation and demonstrated experience in coordinating the implementation of conservation or environmental projects.
• Excellent liaison and consultation skills, ability to work constructively with community groups, volunteers, members of the public, as well as land managers and government agency staff.
• Strong project management, planning and organisational skills including ability to work to deadlines and both independently and part of a team.
• Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills. Competency in word processing and database management.
• Current driver’s license
• Valid Australian work rights with permission to work

What we Offer:

This is a part-time back-fill role (0.8 FTE) based in Adelaide, offered on a maximum term 12-month contract. The position attracts a salary range of $84,576 - $91,098 per annum (pro rata, based on skills and experience) plus superannuation.
