About Us
Natura Pacific is a certified social enterprise delivering high-quality ecological consulting and environmental education across eastern Australia. We help development, community and nature succeed together - without anyone needing to hug a tree (unless they want to… and we won't judge).
We work on everything from fauna corridors and rehabilitation monitoring to vegetation management plans and construction-phase ecology - and we do it with rigour, humour, and a strong sense of purpose. If you like good science, good people, and the occasional terrible pun, you'll fit right in. For more information visit natura-pacific.com.
About the Role
We're looking for a Field Ecologist to join our growing team - whether you lean more toward being a Fauna Ecologist (a calm, highly-trained Fauna Ninjaneer who notices everything) or a Flora Ecologist (a Dedicated Leaf Profiler who can spot a species at 20 paces and name it before the rest of us have found our GPS).
This is a hands-on, field-based role for someone who enjoys getting muddy, thinking ecologically, and working with a team that takes the work seriously - but not themselves.
What You'll Be Doing
- Flora and fauna field surveys and habitat assessments.
- Pre-clearance inspections and construction-phase environmental support.
- Rehabilitation monitoring and photo-point assessments (yes, you will develop opinions about weeds).
- Weed identification and ecological condition assessments.
- Field data collection, GPS use and clear field notes.
- Assisting with ecological reporting and mapping.
- Working safely on active construction sites.
About You
- Degree in Ecology, Environmental Science, Biology or similar.
- Experience in ecological consulting or a strong interest in building a career in consulting ecology.
- You actually like fieldwork and the outdoors (heat, humidity, bugs and all).
- Good plant ID skills or strong fauna knowledge (bonus points if both).
- Comfortable following protocols, taking good notes and asking questions.
- Clear communicator who works well in a team.
- Current driver's licence and White Card (or willingness to obtain).
Nice to Have (But Not Required)
- Fauna spotter-catcher experience or accreditation.
- GPS / GIS skills (QGIS or similar).
- Experience working around construction or infrastructure projects.
Highly Regarded Field Survival Skills (Unofficial but Important)
- Can find the ute keys when everyone swears they put them 'right there'.
- Comfortable surviving on muesli bars, bananas and servo coffee when field days run long.
- Not overly alarmed by scratches, ants, leeches or the occasional rogue spider.
- Can laugh when the GPS loses signal at the exact moment it matters most.
- Knows the value of sunscreen, extra water and a good pair of socks.
Why Join Natura Pacific
- Work with people who genuinely care about ecology and each other.
- Real projects with real environmental outcomes.
- Opportunities to grow into GIS, reporting or project management.
- Flexible arrangements where possible.
- Be part of a certified social enterprise that reinvests in conservation and education.
- Occasional dad jokes, excellent field snacks, and respectful nerdiness.
- The satisfaction of saying 'that ecological corridor is looking mint' and meaning it.
