We are seeking motivated and capable PhD students to join our research group led by Professor Rick Shine at Macquarie University to work on an exciting project combining field ecology with genetic approaches for conservation.

We are developing and field trialling novel technologies for the control of cane toads across northern Australia, and this research will have relevance to the control of invasive species globally. The successful candidate/s will join a multi-disciplinary team of supportive collaborators with strong links to government agencies and external partners. Desirable criteria

• Demonstrated field ecology experience, such as wildlife surveys, animal handling, behavioural observations, and remote-area fieldwork
• Interest in invasive species management and wildlife conservation.
• Ability to work effectively both independently and in a team environment.
• Willingness to live at a remote tropical field station for parts of the project.
• Evidence of initiative, resilience, and problem-solving ability, especially in field contexts
• Note: no genetics experience necessary.

Start date sometime in first half of 2026 preferred but negotiable.
