Senior Land Management Officer / Land Management Officer

Location:
Newhaven Wildlife Sanctuary, NT
About AWC:
The delivery of AWC's mission - the effective conservation of Australian wildlife and their habitats - is highly reliant on all AWC working collaboratively with each other as a cohesive, engaged, collaborative, high-performing group guided by strong, effective leaders.
AWC's work is guided by the following values. At AWC, we are:
OneAWC 'a cohesive, engaged, collaborative, high performing group guided by strong, effective leaders. A group of people who all understand AWC's mission, vision and their role in contributing to the achievement of mission and vision, all connected and working towards a common purpose, guided by a set of shared values'. The delivery of AWC's mission is highly reliant on all AWC working collaboratively with each other.
About the role:
As the Senior Land Management Officer (SLMO), you will play a key role in delivering on-ground conservation outcomes across AWC's central-south region. Reporting to the Sanctuary Manager, this is a hands-on role suited to someone with a strong practical background, a passion for protecting Australia's wildlife and landscapes, and experience delivering land management programs such as fire, weed and feral animal control.
You'll be responsible for coordinating day-to-day operations, managing multiple projects, and maintaining the use and upkeep of plant, equipment and infrastructure. Trade experience, bushfire training and a solid understanding of remote land management are all highly regarded.
Working closely with both the operations and science teams, you'll contribute to an integrated approach to conservation that combines practical land management with ecological research and monitoring. The role also involves collaborating with a wide range of stakeholders, including scientists, students, volunteers, visitors, local communities and government agencies, as AWC continues to develop and implement an innovative model for conservation.
Critical competencies:
Qualifications:
Formal qualifications in a relevant discipline would be an advantage, but are less important than strong, practical experience and a good track record of delivering 'on-ground' results.
Licenses, Certificates and/or Training:
There are multiple open roles based at Newhaven Wildlife Sanctuary currently being advertised, including these Land Management Officer positions and a Field Ecologist position. AWC has shared cabin accommodation available on-site - two people who know each other and are comfortable sharing living arrangements are encouraged to apply.
PLEASE NOTE: This position is offered as an initial 12-month fixed-term contract, with potential for extension or ongoing employment.
