Role Overview: 

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Arborist/Horticulturist to take up a senior position within our Tree Planting & Establishment department ( Urban Forestry). This role requires experience in tree planting within the environmental and landscaping sectors, managing projects and planting crews, plus subsequent maintenance during the establishment phase.

The ideal candidate will have a passion for environmental stewardship, a knack for leadership, and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Project Management: Oversee the planning, execution, and completion of various tree planting & establishment projects. Ensure projects are delivered on time, within scope, and within budget. Manage the daily operations of your team, including task allocation, quality control and monitoring progress
  • Team Leadership: Manage and mentor a team of skilled workers including gardeners, landscapers, and environmental technicians. Foster a positive work environment and ensure high standards of work are maintained. Provide hands-on support and guidance to your team, demonstrating technical skills as needed
  • Client Relations: Act as the point of contact for clients, maintaining strong relationships and ensuring their needs are met. Provide regular updates and address any issues or concerns promptly.
  • Resource Management: Allocate resources efficiently including manpower, equipment, and materials. Ensure the proper maintenance and utilization of all equipment.
  • Compliance & Safety: Ensure all projects comply with relevant regulations, safety standards, and environmental guidelines. Conduct regular safety meetings and inspections.
  • Reporting & Documentation: Accurate record keeping of all works carried out; planting and maintenance tasks and reactive work requests. Communicate regularly with the Senior Project Manager, Operations Manager to assist with vehicle, equipment and OH&S compliance. 
  • Strategic Planning: Develop and implement strategies for improving operational efficiency and project outcomes. Identify opportunities for process improvements and contribute to the development of best practices

About You:

You’ll have a love for the outdoors and happy to work in all weather conditions.
Preferably you’ll have experience in the following;

Project Management Experience: Proven track record in managing projects within the environmental, landscaping, or related sectors. Experience in leading teams and managing client relationships and identify training opportunities and requirements to improve the fieldwork team's capabilities and capacity. Experience in managing horticultural and / or tree planting and establishment contracts

Technical Expertise: Strong technical knowledge of trees, planting, horticulture, herbicide application, vegetation management, landscaping techniques, materials, and equipment. Experience with machinery and trucks is desirable.

Qualifications: AQF Level 3 in Arboriculture or Horticulture, at least 2 years relevant experience in tree planting and or related environmental services, conservation, horticulture, vegetation management or land management
