OzFish Unlimited is a national NGO dedicated to helping the millions of Aussie recreational fishers take action for the health of their waterways and shore up the future of the sport they love. OzFish partners with fishers, stakeholders and the broader community to invest resources into restoring habitats and waterways, counteracting decades of degradation.

OzFish is seeking an experienced Region and Program Manager for our NSW Coastal team based within NSW.  Working under the direction of the Director - Habitat Programs, you will be responsible for:

  • Setting, implementing and monitoring the strategy and targets for OzFish’s NSW Coastal team.
  • Managing a team of up to 8 people, in development and delivery of multiple OzFish projects across the region - all approvals, alignment, deliverables/reporting, communications, stakeholder relationships.
  • Project management including, budget management, analysing data and preparation of technical project reports.
  • Ensuring positive and regular engagement and activities for our volunteers, members and Chapters, aiming for each team member to be managing up to 5 Chapters each, with minimum of 30 members in each. Ensuring the team work with Chapters in new project and idea development.
  • Managing interns and young leader projects and work programs, as necessary (up to one per staff member)
  • Setting the culture, language and tone of the NSW Coastal team and in communications and engagement across the NSW Coastal community
  • Engaging with key stakeholders, including traditional owner groups, state government organisations, community groups, local council, industry partners and university researchers.
  • Expect regular travel within NSW region.

We are looking for someone enthusiastic about fish habitat and fishing who wants to make a difference to aquatic environments.

Key skills:

  1. Qualification in Environmental Science, Aquatic Biology or similar
  2. Demonstrated understanding of aquatic environments and their threats, especially in coastal region.
  3. Demonstrated experience managing staff
  4. Excellent conflict resolution and negotiation skills
  5. Experience and demonstrated record in engaging the community and managing volunteers
  6. Experience in community communication and promotion, especially through social media
  7. Willingness to travel, current drivers licence and suitable vehicle for local travel.
  8. Demonstrated experience in delivery of fish habitat restoration projects

It would be a bonus if you had:

  • Strong technical writing skills
  • Experience in collaborating with government and non-government organisations to achieve joint outcomes
  • Multiple- project coordination experience
  • Experience working in remote work force
  • Strong connections to the local recreational fishing community
  • Experience delivering projects in collaboration with Traditional Owner groups
