Title:

Volunteer Opportunity - Flatback Turtle Monitoring

Advertiser:

Care For Hedland Environmental Association

Location:

Port Hedland, WA

The Care For Hedland Environmental Association is again gearing up for the 2025/2026 Flatback turtle nesting season and the Association monitors three local Port Hedland beaches - Cemetery Beach, Pretty Pool and Spoilbank Beach from November 2025 - December 2025.

The monitoring is in three components: morning track monitoring, evening monitoring/ eco tours for people watching turtle nesting and a 50-night mark/recapture tagging program.

Any interested volunteers who would like to assist from November to December 2025 are most welcome. Volunteers are needed and can take part in the program for any length of time to a maximum of two weeks.

All volunteers will be responsible for food expenses while they are with us. Limited free billeted accommodation is available. We arrange travel to/from the beaches. You must arrange your own transport to Port Hedland.

Volunteers get the opportunity to observe Flatback turtles returning to the sea, see hatchlings emerge from nests, assist in turtle rescues, observe the nesting process at night and be hands on and assist in the mark/recapture tagging program.
