About us

Yanunijarra Aboriginal Corporation was established to manage the Ngurrara exclusive Native Title in the Great Sandy Desert and the Yi-Martuwarra consent Native Title in the Kimberley region of Western Australia - a combined area of nearly 100,000 square kilometres.

We currently manage the Ngurrara Ranger Program, a consolidated team of eight male and female rangers and two Ranger Coordinators. This team undertakes conservation, cultural, and land management work guided by Traditional Owners and the Steering Committee across both the Ngurrara and Yi-Martuwarra determinations, including within the Warlu Jilajaa Jumu Indigenous Protected Area.

Yanunijarra Aboriginal Corporation is now establishing a new ranger team - the Yi-Martuwarra Rangers - a mostly women-led team dedicated to looking after the Yi-Martuwarra determination and supporting remote communities, with the full backing of the Ngurrara Rangers.

About the role

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading the team - Coordinate the day-to-day operations of the Yi-Martuwarra Rangers, providing workplace leadership, mentoring, and ongoing support to ensure a safe, positive, and productive team environment.
  • Program administration - Oversee daily administration tasks such as managing timesheets, and planning and supervising field-based activities across remote locations.
  • Cultural integrity - Support and ensure that all ranger activities are carried out in accordance with cultural protocols and procedures, with respect for Traditional Owner guidance.
  • Remote fieldwork - A strong commitment to remote work is essential. Familiarity with operating 4WD vehicles is desirable, as much of the work takes place in rugged bush locations, including the Great Sandy Desert.

Essential:

  • Experience and/or qualification(s) relating to the following fields: ecology, agriculture, conservation and land management, community development.
  • Demonstrated experience and confidence in working with Aboriginal communities, managing small teams and/or coordinating on-ground natural and cultural resource management projects, preferably with Indigenous organisations and/or in arid and remote regions of Australia.
  • Experience in working independently with minimal supervision in a remote area.
  • Understanding of the two-way science program with school children in remote schools.
  • Actively participate in firefighting planning and support rangers in cultural and prescribed burns.
  • Current valid driver's licence, Working with Children's Check (WCC), National Police Check or ability to obtain one.

Benefits:

A base salary of $80,000 plus a benefits package of:

  • District Allowance from $6,646 (no dependents) to $9,918 (with dependents).
