About You

We are looking for an Advisor with 3-5 years’ experience in environmental impact assessment or ecology, with tertiary qualifications in a field related to our work (e.g., environment, policy, law).  

Recent experience working in a consulting firm or as an impact assessment officer within Australian Government is highly regarded.

As an Advisor with Aestra, you will have the ability to work across a range of projects for public and industry clients, help shape the company direction and apply your problem-solving skills to deliver meaningful outcomes. As we work as trusted advisors to government, it is essential that you are in a position to hold an Australian Government Security Clearance.

Key responsibilities  

Aestra is seeking to fill the role of Advisor (EIA). As a member of a small and dynamic team, it is anticipated the position of Advisor will be responsible for providing input into a broad range of activities being undertaken by Aestra in collaboration with the Director and other Aestra staff.  

The following responsibilities are intended to provide a broad overview of the Advisor role:  

• Support the preparation of strategic advice to clients, including government and industry sectors. 
• Utilising critical thinking, judgement and problem-solving skills to support the development and delivery of polished, accurate products for clients, including but not limited to, preparation of regulatory submissions, environmental impact assessment reports, regulatory options papers, and government briefings. 
• Assisting with the preparation and coordination of environmental impact assessment including analysis of impacts to environment and heritage values using statutory criteria under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 (Cth) and State legislation as required. 
• Undertake and support business development activities and completion of administrative tasks as required including preparation of responses to requests for quotation. 

This is not a field-based role. However, some limited field work may be possible from time to time depending on the qualifications and experience of the successful applicant.  

Working arrangements  

While based in Canberra, we primarily work remotely, so it is essential that you have a dedicated office space where you can comfortably work from home. Working arrangements differ between contracts, and you will need to be able to work flexibly as required, including at times as an embedded officer within government.
