Position Summary:
The Equipment Ranger Officer plays a key role in supporting the safe and efficient delivery of the Aboriginal Ranger program by maintaining, repairing, and managing equipment, plant, and systems. This role ensures operational readiness through effective maintenance procedures, compliance with safety standards, and hands-on support for rangers and field teams. The officer also supports training and contributes to organisational safety and biosecurity compliance.
What You'll Be Doing
- Carry out preventive maintenance and repairs on plant, equipment, and systems to support safe field operations.
- Maintain the plant and equipment register, including up-to-date records of vehicle and boat fleet registrations.
- Keep Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Equipment Operating Procedures (EOPs) up to date for all tools and machinery.
- Ensure staff are trained and inducted in relevant SOPs and EOPs for new and existing equipment.
- Work with the WHS team to develop new SOPs and EOPs where required.
- Manage workshop operations, including tools, equipment, and parts inventory.
- Oversee vehicle fleet repairs and maintenance, ensuring safety and reliability.
- Track and log repairs, servicing, and equipment status.
- Maintain biosecurity standards for plant and equipment (e.g. keeping equipment clean between sites).
- Support the maintenance of the corporate maintenance management system.
- Deliver training in small engine and chainsaw maintenance and repair.
- Assist staff and others with technical support as needed.
- Ensure rangers are supplied with working equipment appropriate to the task and location.
- Willingness to provide on-site support in the field.

Qualifications and Experience
Essential
- Relevant mechanical or trade experience in small engine, plant, or equipment maintenance.
- Knowledge of workshop safety practices.
- Current Driver's Licence.
- Willingness to travel and support fieldwork in remote or regional areas.
- Experience with WHS requirements related to machinery, including conducting pre-start checks, hazard identification, and equipment safety compliance.
Desirable
- Experience in delivering training or inductions.
- Familiarity with maintenance management systems.
- Background in land care, ranger programs, or environmental fieldwork.
- Experience using or repairing chainsaws, brush cutters, and other field tools.
